We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.

Recovery

What is recovery? What does it really mean to ‘recover’? It means so many different things to so many different people.

To me recovery is about being open minded and honest, it is about being willing to accept the things that need to change. Recovery is about being realistic in the goals you want to achieve. Recovery means letting go of the bad, negative behaviors and embracing all the positive aspects of life, it is about learning to love the person who you really are, not the person you are trying to recover from. Recovery is about accepting that things in the past happened and knowing that there is nothing you can do to change that, while still being able to look towards the future. Recovery means not being afraid to ask for help along the way because recovery is also something you cannot do alone. Recovery is about having faith, putting your confidence into something non tangible. It means learning to become more confident in your own skin and not hiding behind masks for the world to see, but actually just being yourself, letting the world see the true you. Recovery is about living life to the fullest not just existing day by day. It is about being honest with yourself and finding strengths in your weaknesses. It is about being there for the ones you care for and being a good role model for the ones you cant be there for. Recovery is about acknowledging your successes and learning to accept others compliments. Recovery is about looking back, while moving forward, working on the past while building the future. It is about improving your journey in life not just finding temporary fixes. It is about that inner smile that is radiated and seen by all, not just that fake smile that can easily be seen through. Recovery is about seeing life behind your eyes, and realizing that we don’t have to be okay all the time Recovery is about learning to be yourself, it does not mean loosing your control, it simple means taking control in a positive, helpful way. It is about learning that it is okay to cry, it is okay to shout, it is okay to feel any form of emotion and it is okay to ask for help. Recovery is learning to love that person looking back at you when you stand in front of the mirror

To recover means to see hope through the pain, to see faith through the darkness and to just know that everything will end up okay, sure it will be hard along the way but in the end it will be worth it.
